Features round barrel, post front sight, Lawrence rear sight, saddle ring and bar, old tape priming system intact, and walnut stocks. Lawrence rear sight is missing a leaf. Stamped on the left side frame " C K 9 CAv". CONDITION: All metal surfaces are a soft brown patina. Stocks are excellent with minor bruises and no visible DFC ribbon. Sharp legends. Rifling is mirror sharp. An excellent, used, smooth example of a carbine that saw use in the Civil War, returned to the arsenal where it was updated for cartridge use, and then used on the American Frontiers. A piece of US history that led to the expansion of the States after the devastating Civil War. The 9th Cavalry, Company K was authorized in 1866, and from there they were deployed to Texas Frontier. They acquired the so-called 1869 Sharps conversions in March of 1872. They moved all about Texas with these carbines, turning them in on in March of 1874. These Sharps were only used in Texas for two years fighting Indians and protecting civilians.
