Manufactured second quarter of 1878. Still has the 1878 type rear sight that is pinned, with "C" stamp on side, 2nd form. Features short fat wrist, 1873 dated bolt, 1873 eagle sideplate, trapdoor buttplate, saddle ring and bar, sling swivel on front band, and smooth trigger. Post front sight is later replacement. Proof script "P" on wrist. "VP" proof. "ESA" cartouche not visible. CONDITION: Metal is a clean blue drifting brown patina. Stock is excellent condition with minor bumps and handling marks. Bore exhibits sharp lands and grooves with some minor residue. Rare and scarce original Model 1877. This carbine shipped to the Office of the Chief of Ordnance on June 8th, 1878. A carbine one number off was issued to Company K 7th Cavalry.
