(1928) Specially made for shooting with one's left eye, from the right shoulder, these crossover guns entailed a lot of specialized gun making, including bending or specially filing top and bottom tangs, sears, safety components, and trigger guard. Stocks had to be selected for correct grain flow. This gun by this well regarded London maker has 28" dovetailed barrels engraved "William Evans 63, Pall Mall. St. James's, London" on narrow swamped game rib with extension. Barrel flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 2-1/2" chambers. Case hardened action with nicely filed fences features automatic safety ("SAFE" inlaid in silver), screw grip third fastener, bushed strikers, and double triggers. Action is engraved with sprays of well cut scroll. "William Evans" is on each side. Blued top lever, floorplate, and trigger guard also have sprays of scroll. Serial number is on trigger guard tang. Lightly figured and streaked European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-7/8" over checkered wood butt on 1/2" lengthening piece. Flat top point pattern checkering is at grip, and a vacant silver oval is on toe line. Stock is deeply swept to allow for aligning shooters left eye with rib. Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release. CONDITION: Fine, as partially refinished. Barrels retain approximately 90% of an old re-black. Action retains 30-40% original case hardening color. Floorplate and trigger guard re-blued, and retain most of that blue. There are a number of deep scratches on both fences. Stock retains most of an old oil refinish, checkering considerably worn. Bores are very fine to excellent. Action is tight. Ejectors are strong and in time.
