(Circa 1921) The "Reliance" was Scott's best boxlock, made up until 1933, and featured an extra strong action. This unusual small bore gun has 28" dovetailed barrels with slightly raised, narrow, matted rib. Makers name, model, and address are engraved on tops of barrels. Barrel flats are stamped with Birmingham nitro proofs for 2-1/2" chambers. It appears that forcing cones have been altered. Case hardened, arch-backed action features automatic safety, crossbolt third fastener, side clips, bushed strikers, distinctive reinforcing bolsters, and double triggers. Action is engraved with 80% coverage well cut scroll. "W & C SCOTT & SON" is on each side. Top lever, floorplate, and trigger guard are blued, and also scroll engraved. Serial number is on trigger guard tang, along with Scott castle logo. Relatively plain European walnut round knob pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/8" over ribbed horn buttplate. Stock also features drop points and point pattern checkering. Matching splinter forend has Anson release. CONDITION: Very fine, mostly original. Barrels retain approximately 90% original blue, with numerous light scratches. Action retains 60% original color. Blued parts retain most of their blue, trigger guard considerably silvered on sides and at grip. Stocks retain most of what appears to be their original finish, freshened a bit with added oil. There is an incipient crack, top right side panel. Buttplate has numerous small chips,. Checkering lightly worn. Bores are fine, lightly frosted, and with a few scattered light pits. Forcing cones lengthened. Action is tight. Barrels are on face. A nice handling small bore British gun.
