Face of the action is marked 52. Stevens was known for mixing model numbers, especially with the Pope Special rifles. Pope barrel number 1819 with no Pope code. Fitted with a typical loop lever for Model 52. Double set triggers are fitted. Engraved in a simple scroll pattern. Buttstock, with very nicely finished wood, beautifully checkered, is a Pope Special style with a Pope Special buttplate. Stevens forearm is nicely checkered, two screw style, and fitted with a Stevens-Pope palm rest. 30" octagon barrel is #4 weight and fitted with a false muzzle and starter. False muzzle is stamped with the barrel number and the starter has the barrel number scratched in, not stamped. Front sight is missing, Stevens-Pope sight on tang. Scope is unmarked, fitted with a Pope rib. Comes with the original numbered loading rod. CONDITION: Action has small area of age freckling on right side and traces of case color, especially on left side. Buttstock has numerous small scratches, dings, etc., from handling over the years. Fine action, excellent bore. Optics need cleaning. TR
