Referred to as the Slant Breech sporting rifle of 1853, right side of the frame has the 1852 Sharps patent date. Tang has the 1848 patent date and serial number. Features the Maynard tape primer system, sporting long range rear sight, sporting front sight, octagon barrel, metal forend tip, walnut stock, double set triggers, patchbox, lanyard ring. CONDITION: All metal is super high polish in-the-white; shows some average age freckling but is quite nice with razor sharp edges. Walnut stock has the usual bumps and bruises and has had some touch-up to finish. There was a swivel in rear butt that has been plugged. Fine action. Strong, well defined rifled bore with minor residue. Very handsome, high condition 1853 sporting rifle. Scarce with only 2,240 manufactured 1852 to 1859.
