Serial number 104822 applied on March 8th, 1907; record is blank. This special order Model 1885 features the scarce full heavy No. 4 octagon barrel, blued frame, pistol grip, single set trigger, single lever, special target deluxe high gloss checkered fancy American walnut stock with cheek piece and plated Swiss buttplate. Stock has ebony insert at end of pistol grip. Forearm is of fancy walnut, checkered, with ebony insert at tip. Sights include wind-gauge front sight, graduated peep tang, and Winchester sporting rear. Blued frame with case colored hammer and lever. CONDITION: Octagon barrel has wear on high edges with 90% blue mixing with beautiful plum, some thinning. Most barrel wear is at muzzle and sharp edges. Sides of frame retain approximately 75% original high polish blue, mostly worn at high spots. Traces of color on lever. The highly finished checkered stocks have usual bumps and bruises and small crack on left part of tang, which does not appear to extend very far, and a few spots of grain separation. Forearm shows very little if any wear. Traces of plating left on buttplate. Fine action. Strong, clean rifled bore. A great example of a special target in a caliber that, after shooting, would be refreshing. A renickling of the buttplate would make this rifle the centerpiece of any Winchester single shot collection.
