.44 caliber, 7-1/2 inch part octagon barrel. Blue/casehardened finish. Walnut stock. Early Colt commercial production first Model Dragoon revolver. Revolver has characteristic small numeral serial numbers on all major components. Serial numbers match on barrel, frame, cylinder, trigger guard, and back strap. Loading lever is a period replacement with later style large numerals. Left front of frame is marked "COLT'S PATENT/U.S." barrel has Colt's "NEW YORK CITY" address. Cylinder has Ranger and Indian scene with "MODEL U.S.M.R./COLT'S PATENT" markings. Barrel and cylinder have high polish dark blue finish. Frame and hammer are case colored. Backstrap and trigger guard are silver plated. Walnut grips have a highly polished varnish finish. Frame is stamped US but there are no other inspector marks, leading us to believe that this was a condemned military frame. This was refinished at some time, with no idea as to when. CONDITION: The barrel retains approximately 75% of the commercial high polish Colt bluing. The cylinder has 85% of the blued finish intact. Case colors have basically patterned out. There are some dents under the front grip strap. Grips have been refinished to near mint. A beautiful bore with strong rifling. True screws. First model easily identified by oval cylinder stops and square back trigger guard. This was obvious refinished long ago as there is ample wear since having been done.
