The factory letter on this fine Colt indicates that it was part of a four gun shipment on May 17th, 1879 to one of Colt's largest dealers, H&D Folsom Arms Co., New York, in a nickel finish. Barrel length and grips are not listed but 7 - 1/2" and varnished walnut one piece stocks were standard and would not be listed unless special order. You will find matching serial numbers and assembly numbers on frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder, and bottom of barrel, which is also stamped 44. CONDITION: This desirable early etched panel Colt has seen very little use as evidenced by light cylinder burn. Razor sharp barrel address. Sharp three line patent dates on frame. Near mint etched panel "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" has the screw in blackpowder frame, donut head ejector, type 1 hammer, full nickel finish, fire blued screws, varnished one piece walnut grips. This revolver retains fully 85%+ factory original nickel finish. Straps are basically grey patina that blends perfectly with the nickel. Some light age spotting on barrel and some usual areas of wear on cylinder. Areas of exposed metal blend perfectly with the nickel finish, giving it a lovely homogeneous eye appeal. Indexes and locks up like a brand new gun. Strong, near mint bore. Screws retain a majority of their fire blue and all are true with the exception of the marred ejector housing screw. Grips retain a majority of their original varnish with usual wear at base and small nicks and loss of varnish on left panel. Still retains a solid 90% original varnish. You would have to look a long time to find a finer condition pre-1880 Colt etched panel. A beautiful collector grade civilian Colt. Originally purchased from the Jonathan Peck Collection.
