John Oberlies of Dayton Ohio made this rifle for H. H. Jacobs, also of Dayton, who shot in the Olympics and won many medals. It has 28 - 1/8" heavy round barrel marked "ERIC JOHNSON" on top and fitted with scope blocks and front block holding Redfield globe sight. Scope blocks hold unmarked tube sight in Fecker micrometer mounts. BSA Martini action with trademark on left side is also engraved "1938", has damascened breech block and operating lever. Stocks configured for international competition are of nicely fiddle figured American walnut and feature large right hand cheekpiece. Point pattern checkering at grip and on various pads of long forend. A steel buttplate marked "J. OBERLIES DAYTON O" is fitted. Stocks have various decorations including a silver maple leaf at center of forend, an American shield on bottom of grip, and an inlet silver map of Ohio on cheekpiece engraved "H. H. Jacobs" with a star and "Dayton". CONDITION: Excellent, retaining nearly all fine custom finishes on all surfaces. Bore is excellent. Mechanically fine.
