Blued action fitted with an extra screw on the right side, which is believed to provide a takedown feature. Double set triggers and a case colored two trigger lever. The buttstock of fancy American walnut has a checkered pistol grip with cap and cheekpiece. Nickel plated Swiss buttplate. Forearm is checkered fancy American walnut with ebony insert. 28" barrel, half octagon, number 3 weight. Stamped for "Winchester Repeating Arms Company" etc., and for .22 Long. Front sight is a Winchester with a windage adjustment. The tang sight is a Winchester-Vernier. Factory research lists rifle shipped June 12th, 1901 and repaired and returned October 25th, 1902; left the factory as a 30" .32-40 half octagon No. 3 barrel with Schuetzen set trigger, checkered stock, pistol grip, mid-range Vernier and wind gauge sights, no rear sight, no level, Swiss buttplate, and Swiss cheek piece. CONDITION: Overall appearance is very fine. Action just has a few minor scratches on it. Lever has considerable case color remaining, although worn in some spots. Buttstock and forearm have very light handling marks. Buttplate has almost all nickel remaining. Barrel bluing shows little wear. Bore is excellent, action is fine. A wonderful example of a rarely found caliber. TR
