This pistol is featured on page 48 in Volume 108, Number 1 from the Spring 2006 "Journal of the Lancaster County Historical Society". A copy of the journal with this article written by Albert Wade Drepperd, great grandson of gunsmith John Drepperd, is included. The Drepperd family of gunsmiths was among the most well-known and prolific in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. This example fits the profile of those made by Henry Drepperd and probably dates about 1820. This pistol features a round brass barrel with swamped muzzle and English proofs on the left side, near the breech. The top is marked "LONDON". It was a common practice for American gunsmiths of this period to use English imported locks and barrels. The flat lockplate is decorated with engraving at the tail and around the pan, the center is marked "DREPPERD/LANCASTER." Brass furniture is decorated with some minimal engraving. Vacant oval wrist escutcheon with single line border. Stock of figured maple and complete with hickory ramrod. CONDITION: Very good overall. Barrel and mounts retain a mellow mustard patina. Lock appears to be in original flintlock configuration with excellent markings and an even grey patina. Stock is very good with a few light marks from use. A very nice Lancaster, Pennsylvania-made Kentucky pistol.
