Sporterized custom commercial Mauser built on a 98 large ring action. Semi-figured walnut styled stock with ebony tip and grip cap showing signs of shrinkage. Uniquely carved Monte Carlo styled comb containing the "Bulter Curl" and unique stock inletting around trigger guard. Checkering is sharp and was complete before the stock was finished. Commercial bolt is bent and swept back for scope mount, complimented by a polished low profile safety. On top of the receiver is a one piece Redfield scope base. Barrel is hand stamped "F.R BUTLER / POULTNEY VT / .338 W. M." with some characters uneven and overstamped. Bolt release appears to be a nitre blue finish. Solder-on styled European sling swivel base located on the barrel and matching stud found in the stock. CONDITION: Barrel retains 98% of blue finish. Bolt shows evidence of light oxidization. Bore is very lightly frosted with strong rifling. Mechanics are crisp. The gun shows little evidence of field use. JTH
