Action was originally case colored and features single trigger lever and single set trigger. Action is a flat mainspring type and is stamped .32-40 under the mainspring. Buttstock is fancy American walnut with checkered pistol grip and cap. Fitted with a Swiss nickel plated buttplate. Forearm is dark and checkered. It is fitted for a Winchester palm rest, now missing. 30 - 3/4" barrel features full octagon, number 4 weight, and has four extra holes at the muzzle end for a false muzzle, now missing. Rifling has right had twist and is not by H.M. Pope. On left side of barrel is a very small stamp for "I (?) .N. Phillips, Sac." We are not aware of a Phillips barrel maker so this may be a previously unknown barrel maker or an owner stamp. Front sight is a Winchester wind gauge while rear tang sight appears to be gunsmith made of fairly decent quality. Barrel also has an extra dovetail, now filled, and has been drilled and tapped for a scope. Barrel has been recut but still appears to be .32 caliber. Features a Unertl 10x scope. Factory research yields no information. CONDITION: Retains only traces of case color. Stock needs cleaning and shows minor handling marks. Buttplate is starting to flake although still has 90% of nickel. Some age spotting underneath the forearm. Good bore and action, although there is some minor roughness in front of the chamber. Full octagon barrel shows almost all of the original blue except for the sharp edges of the octagons. There is some minor age spotting toward the muzzle. A fine old custom target rifle. TR
