SPRINGFIELD ARMORY NRA Sporter with 24" tapered round barrel marked “SA / 9-30” with a flaming bomb in center just below front sight. Crown of muzzle is stamped with star gauge star and bottom of barrel, under the forestock is stamped with the star gauge number “I 935”. Receiver has standard 1903 markings with numbers matching polished bolt body & extractor and is mounted with a Lyman 48S receiver sight. Drilled and tapped for period scope bases as were many, as can be found in the book "The Springfield 1903 Rifle" by Colonel Brophy. Mounted in the rare NBA Sporter half stock without grasping grooves in forestock and an unusual flat bottom pistol grip with smooth buttplate without trap. Forestock is secured with a single grooved band that has a sling loop with corresponding sling loop in buttstock. Bottom of wrist has the “P” in a circle proof. Trigger guard and floorplate are standard issue milled steel with polished blue. This rifle is listed by serial number on p. 45 indicating it was produced and sold through Springfield Armory for the DCM as a Sporter in the book "The Summary of DCM Sales 1922-1942" by Springfield Research Service Silver Spring Maryland. CONDITION: Very fine with over 95% factory blue finish remaining on barrel and receiver with losses contained to edges of muzzle and high points of sights and receiver. 97% or better of the blue finish on the trigger guard remains. The stock is extremely fine with little wear or distress and most all the original finish remaining. The smooth buttplate has turned patina and is slightly distressed from sitting in storage. The bore is superb as is bright and shiny with sharp lands and grooves. The action works smoothly and properly. Truly an exceptional Springfield Armory NRA Sporter. CORRECTION: According to Springfield Research Service list, this is not an NBA Sporter but a standard NRA Sporter.
