The consignor believes that this rifle was made for the 1874 International Match by Hepburn. Hepburn stated that the rifle he was "was completely made by my own hands." This may also be a transition from the Remington Rolling Block to the Remington Hepburn, which had a falling block action. This is a one-of-a-kind as no other examples are known. The action is nickel plated. Buttstock is checkered with a pistol grip, shotgun butt, and a small ebony insert at the pistol grip. Forearm is checkered with an ebony insert at the end. Barrel is 34" long and unmarked, but chambered for the .44-77 cartridge (2 - 1/4"). Sights are Remington wind gauge front sight with spirit level and Remington long staff Creedmoor sight mounted at the heel. CONDITION: Action nickel plating has a majority of the nickel remaining and small specks coming loose. Buttstock has some handling marks and crazing due to age. Forearm has some chips at bottom just in front of the action. Bore is excellent, action is fine. A one of a kind rifle that should be a centerpiece of a collection of Remington single shot target rifles. It is shown on pages 8 and 9 of "Remington Hepburn" by Tom Rowe. TR
