Factory research states this rifle was shipped September 14th, 1899 with a number 3 30" half octagon barrel in .32-40 with plain trigger, plain stock and pistol grip, and graduated peep and bead sights. The barrel was changed to a number 3 full round by an amateur that left wrench marks at the breech, but it is a Winchester marked barrel. Has a standard sporting front sight, semi-buckhorn rear. The caliber for this rifle is .45-90. Stock has been checkered. Has an original tang sight. Barrel and frame are blue. Hammer and lever are case colored. CONDITION: Barrel retains 80% of what appears to be original Winchester blue with some handling marks and the aforementioned wrench marks on left side of breech. Frame retains 75% of the original Winchester bright blue, blending homogeneously to brown patina. Dark walnut stocks are excellent and proud to metal. Buttplate is brown patina. Traces of color on lever. Fine action. Near mint, shiny bore. Handsome gun in a great caliber, should be a good shooter. Could use some attention to the wrench marks.
