Designed by Gustav Bittner, who came from a family of gunsmiths back to the 17th century, who founded a factory with his brother in 1860 in Bohemia. Bittner developed a special cartridge, which had a lip liner which was designated the 7.7x17 Bittner. While often called the Model 1893, in the German book it is referred to as the Model 1896, as the gun was patented in 1896 in Prague. Built with an octagon barrel, sights consist of an adjustable rear with graduations from 50-150 meters, and a high dovetail front sight, checkered walnut grips, checkered panels, ring lever activated trigger, and swivel in butt. Right side of frame stamped Patent Bittner with logo. These are the only external markings visible. Pistol was loaded through a special five shot clip with ejection out the base. According to experts, less than 3000 were manufactured. Serial number was placed on bottom of frame. Inside of right grip stamped E. Serial number 65 stamped inside of left grip frame. One of the earliest known repeating pistols. CONDITION: Barrel is a blue-brown-grey mix with some light salt and pepper. Balance of metal is a gunmetal grey with age spots. Grips are very good with their usual dents and small crack on bottom right front toe. Comes in what appears to be a period style case.
