This custom rifle was built based on an 1885 action, a heavyweight round barrel was installed and is stamped at breech "22 3000 C.C. JOHNSON THACKERY O". Barrel was built without sights and has A-O scope mounts on barrel. Features blued finish, custom walnut target stock with rakish roll-over comb, pistol grip, metal shotgun butt, and no checkering. Barrel features a recessed muzzle. CONDITION: Barrel retains 75-80% blue, starting to thin to base metal. 95% of the custom reapplied blue on frame. Stock is excellent with usual dings. Strong, well-defined bore and fine action. Johnson was a well-known gunsmith in the 1940's and was a leading small bore competitor, famous for his target barrels. The majority of the known examples were chambered for the .22-3000. When referring to the internet, images of C.C. Johnson rifles, the stock profile on this rifle is seen mounted to various actions.
