Manufactured 1947. Immediate post-World War II production Super Grade with Winchester deluxe detachable sling swivel bases and diamond checkering pattern at forearms and wrist with ebony forend tip. Steel checkered butt plate and Winchester black plastic pistol grip cap. Drop magazine floor plate properly marked -SUPER GRADE-. 24 inch Winchester marked barrel with proper date of 47 on bottom of chamber as well as 25 R indicating .257 Roberts. Receiver is drilled and tapped with two holes on receiver bridge and two holes at rear. Mounted with one piece Redfield base, one inch rings, and a Leopold Vari-XIII 4.5-14 adjustable objective matte finished rifle scope. The model 70 Super Grade has long been cherished as one of Americas finest production rifles and is not frequently encountered in the desirable .257 Roberts cartridge. CONDITION: Very good with over 95% of the factory applied blue finish remaining, slight thinning and losses at muzzle, and very light edge wear. Bolt is properly etched with serial number and has slight finish loss on bolt handle. Trigger guard and floor plate are very good with only slight edge wear from light use. Bore is excellent with sharp lands and grooves and little evidence of use. The Select American walnut stock is very fine with minor bruises and some slight finish flaking on butt. An additional coat of oil finish has been applied over the original finish that has preserved the stock and looks very good. Optics are crystal clear. An outstanding hunting rifle in a truly American classic configuration.
