This is a scarce target model with the Paine front sight and adjustable rear sight. Six shot fluted cylinder, single action, nickel plated, with Smith and Wesson monogrammed black composite grips. Hammer and trigger are case colored, rear sight latch is high polish blue. This gun has been expertly and properly refinished as they did not renickel the trigger guard and hammer as do most refinished guns. The fit on the sideplate is razor sharp with no damage, another trait normally not found on refinished guns. Has matching serial numbers on frame, cylinder, latch, and barrel. CONDITION: There are a few areas of fine pitting on the cylinder, otherwise this revolver retains 97% of the reapplied nickel retaining razor sharp edges and legends. There is some light bubbling and freckling here and there, which indicates a period renickel. Grips are near mint, nice case colors on hammer, traces on trigger guard. 98% high polish blue on latch, sight, and extractor. Due to the age of the refinish and the factory quality, it is our opinion that it is a factory refinish gun. Unfortunately, factory finishes are generally stamped and dated under the grips and we cannot remove the grips as the right escutcheon simply spins, preventing removal and confirmation of factory work. Action is fine and locks up like a vault with a strong, clean, and shiny near mint bore. A beautiful revolver and we are virtually positive was factory redone before World War II but cannot guarantee it. If you are looking for a Model 3 Target that looks factory near new and you want one to shoot the .44 Russian, which is easy to obtain and or reload, this would be the perfect one for you.
