Basically your standard issue 1866 saddle ring carbine with round barrel, full magazine, twin bands, post front sight, single leaf folding rear sight, brass frame, saddle ring in stud with walnut stocks, and a brass carbine buttplate. Serial number on the lower tang, the last two numbers are worn smooth and illegible. CONDITION: All metal is a fine soft blue-brown patina with sharp barrel legends. Front barrel band is missing the screw. Brass is untouched, lovely color. The forend is decorated with six tacks of unknown vintage and inset brass plaque, and small forearm repair. Right side of stock decorated with tacks in a cross pattern. Stock has some hairline cracks with brass plaque at bottom, decorative heel, five point star on left side, pinned repair at wrist. Wood is 1/8th of an inch shy to metal at wrist and should be able to be made more presentable by a good woodworker. Muzzle slightly rounded from scabbard. Well defined bore and fine action. Metal on this rifle is very presentable, wood could probably be fitted for a better look with some minor repair to the cracks, tacks are faceted and would look better with old style smooth rounds. Still a handsome rifle with the Western "Yellow Boy" look.
