A near identical rifle can be seen on page 119, the start of Chapter 12 in the book "Ballard" by John Dutcher. Features the earlier three line patent dates on left side of frame, as can be seen on page 123 along with the S curve lever and octagonal cut frame with recess. This rifle is stamped "THE MARLIN FIREARMS COMPANY" and not J.M. Marlin. Features include a dovetail sporting front sight, dovetail sporting single blade wind drift rear sight, single set trigger, full octagon barrel, walnut stocks, rifle butt. CONDITION: Barrel is a pleasing blend of blue-brown patina with some wiped on finish for blending. Case colors on frame have browned and freckled out, as has the lever. Stocks are excellent, proud to metal with a minor putty repair at top wrist. Fine action. Rifling is visible but not great.
