Built in 1974, this gun was made just before Mario Abbiatico and Remo Salvinelli changed their numbering system and set out to build some of the world’s best guns. This finely crafted example certainly represents one of their initial attempts to combine the finest gun making with exceptional embellishment. Beautifully struck 26" chopper lump barrels are fitted with slightly raised, concave game rib. Side of left barrel is engraved “Armi Famars”. Chopper lump barrels with makers names on lug, proof marks on flats along with makers stampings. Action edge is beautifully filed throughout and shows very good polish on unengraved locks and bottom of frame. Bottom of frame engraved "Famars" in well executed banner. Trigger plate shows very deep engraving of mythical face with scroll chiseling. Trigger guard bow with filed edges and original owners initials "JEB" engraved at center, with beaded border running down long tang. Top of action shows incredible carving of scroll and mythical faces on each barrel bolster along with superb carving on top tang. Both hammers are well sculptured with serpent faces at fronts, and sculptured scrolls on tops. Top lever shows beautiful sculpture work with piercing at thumb point of a mythical figure. Engravers signature, "Fracassi, Inc", found at front of trigger guard bow. Straight grip buttstock is checkered in two point pattern through the wrist and is made of finely figured European walnut and terminates with a finely checkered butt. Tear drops carved behind action and initials "JEB" in gold on top of comb. Semi-beavertail forend is checkered in point pattern with diamond in center and metal parts show beaded edges throughout with Anson type pushbutton release. Barrel blue is high polish and nearly purple in color. Housed in its original Nizoli leather case with purple velvet interior. Case has makers label and extra springs inside. CONDITION: Extremely fine, near mint. Gun appears test fired only and was purchased new by our consignor and has not been fired by him since new. Wood and metal show only minute handling and assembly marks with wood finish just beginning to raise a touch on butt. Right hammer will not stay cocked, likely gummed up from oil, otherwise mechanics are fine. Bores are brilliant and shiny. Case is very good with a few scuffs. This is really a classy and beautiful gun for a discerning buyer and the quality and depth of the engraving is superb!
