This sword has a straight double edged steel blade with partially visible German inscriptions in the partial fullers on both sides. The iron guard is a four-slot type with fluted knucklebow and three branches on each side separated by "S"-shaped designs. The grip is wrapped with shagreen and decorated with strands of braided brass wire. The pommel is round with a flattened washer on top. This attractive sword probably dates circa 1770. CONDITION: The blade retains an even medium grey patina and edges are good with a few minor nicks and some rounding to tip. Hilt retains a dark brown patina and grip has some minor losses and wear. A very nice English saber.
