This 14" Trapper short rifle comes with a copy of a handwritten letter from George Madis, noted Winchester historian, where he states he carefully examined this rifle and determined that the gun was made in 1907. He notes the configuration with rifle butt, walnut stocks, octagon barrel, full length magazine, repositioned magazine hanger, standard sporting sights. It should be noted the length of the walnut forend is 7-3/8", which is two inches shorter than that of a standard length barrel model. He states this gun is illustrated in the 19th edition of the "Blue Book of Gun Values" and is described. "WD" carved into forend. Includes ATF clearance papers. CONDITION: Well-worn. All metal is a mix of dark chocolate brown and gunmetal grey. Screws are decent. Wood is good with an average amount of scars. Upper tang of stock is shy to metal. Wood has been refinished and revarnished. Caliber marking on left side still visible but barrel markings are no longer readable, and the edges are all rounded from wear. Well defined rifling with abrasion in grooves. Working order. Possibly one of a kind.
