The 40" long slender blade is of fine quality, signed "in Toledo". The cup is finely chiseled cup with soldiers on horseback and men holding horns and falchions, near a castle. The pommel and cast have chiseled Turks head en suite, appears to be the original fine wire wrapped grip, chiseled guard de polvo intact. CONDITION: 17" from ricasso, this lovely blade shows a period repair where the tip portion is joined by a combination of copper brazing and two steel pins, which in no way detracts but only adds to the quality of this beautiful cup hilt rapier. The whole is fine original condition throughout, with the exception of the period repair, which indicates that the owner used it in a duel and prized it so highly that he had it repaired by a master blademaker. The steel shows only minor wear and corrosion. The blade is crisp with expected minor bending. The grip is fine. An extremely attractive and original rapier.
