The .303 British round was developed in Britain as a black powder cartridge and put into service in December of 1888 for the Lee-Metford. In 1891 the cartridge was adopted to use smokeless powder. It remained the standard British military cartridge from 1889 to the 1950's when it was replaced by the 7.62x51mm NATO round. This rare bullet board is only example we have seen put out by Kynoch's ammunition company, displaying eight variations of the .303 cartridge and their assorted bullets. There is a Bisley testimonial at the top of the board that proclaims the virtue of this fabulous cartridge. On the board are eight full cartridges with their individual bullets numbered and displayed within from pattern number one to pattern number eight. The colors are two tones of green with red and white. Colors are brilliant with no fading or inpainting. It is framed with wood backing, has a new hanger, frame and liner are period. It is in the form of a diamond and measures 27" at its longest length and 18" at its widest point. A unique and near mint display piece, and a must have for any British Enfield collector. PROVENANCE: From the collection of Nathan Posner, former owner of the San Francisco Gun Exchange and most recently on display at the Buffalo Bill Historical Museum of Cody, Wyoming. NOTE: Comes with custom handbuilt wooden crate for shipping and/or transportation.
