The Schultze Gun Powder Company was incorporated in 1868. They were located at 28 Gresham Street, London, and in 1898 moved to 254A Grays Inn Road, London, WC. Plant Eyeworth and land at Redridge. Captain Schultze is widely credited with inventing the worlds first smokeless powder. By 1878 they became the worlds leading gun powder producer. By 1895 the factory was working two shifts, 24 hours a day, six days a week, with 100 employees producing 20,000 pounds of gun powder per week. Its most famous advocate in the United States was famous sharpshooter Annie Oakley. Schultze went into decline in 1906 and sales plummeted after World War I. In 1918 it became part of the explosives trades limited that merged 29 companies in England. Scultze changed their name to Nobel Industries in 1920. Offered is a pre-1898 all original Schultze Gunpowder Shotshell display board. The address on the board was vacated in 1898 with probably manufacturing circa 1870s. Board measures 30 - 1/2" in length by 22 - 1/2" in width and 2 - 1/4" in depth. Seventeen different unloaded shotshell hulls are mounted to a manila board with black printing, each a different brand that used the Schultze powder. In the center is an early Schultze gunpowder can with the familiar clenched fist and lightning bolt logo. Between the cartridges are numerous wads, printed with different labels. It is framed in oak with double oak lines. CONDITION: There a few spots of wear on the can and a few minor blemishes with overall toning. Glass was replaced at one time and is no longer handblown, as it would have been originally. It is wood backed with canvas straps and new clamps, all of which were done when the glass was replaced. When they screwed in the new brackets, two of the screws came through the liner. Mentioned to be as specific as possible as no damage was done to the board. In our research, we could not find a single type board offered for sale, ever. This would be an incredible display piece in any gun room. PROVENANCE: From the collection of Nathan Posner, former owner of the San Francisco Gun Exchange and most recently on display at the Buffalo Bill Historical Museum of Cody, Wyoming. NOTE: Comes with custom handbuilt wooden crate for shipping and/or transportation.
