This is an interesting rifle. Three engraved plaques carrying the name of three different men, all from Maryland, are engraved and attached to the right forearm, left forearm, and left stock. The right forearm reads "Frank Wilson U.B.C 1 Cumberland, Maryland" which was the United Brothers of Carpenters in Maryland. Plaque of left side forearm reads "WM. William P Cross esq. Davis Mills 1872" and the left side of the stock has a plaque that reads "J. W Gray Fredrick Co. MD.". The rifle sports a 32" octagon barrel, has a .40 bore percussion. The lock is marked "Golchur, Philadelphia". Features double set triggers, engraved sideplate and hammer, German nickel hardware, beautiful brass patchbox. Left side of the stock has a few other decorations such as a deer and a dog. Has a backlock action, replaced rear sight. Metal is basically gray patina. Wood is nicely grained walnut, does have a couple small cracks near breech on left side. Strong and fine rifling. Rifle weighs 9 pounds 4 oz.
