The second most utilized Army revolver of the US Civil War. The .44 caliber Remington Army with its solid frame with top strap was incredibly strong and reliable. The United States Government purchased approximately 106,000 of these great revolvers and they were inspected and cartouched upon the two piece walnut grips. Drift adjustable front sight with grooved receiver for rear sight. 8 inch octagon barrel with "REMINGTON & SONS, ILION NEW YORK USA" marked on top strap. Serial number 18847 found on frame beneath left grip as well as on bottom of barrel and numbers 8847 on rear of cylinder. Both grips are numbered in pencil 8847 on interior. Blue finish overall with case colored hammer and brass trigger guard. Single action operation with safety notches on rear of cylinder. CONDITION: Exceptionally fine with over 95% of the blue finish on barrel, 60% blue finish on frame with losses at back strap and recoil shield. Cylinder retains over 80% blue finish. Bore is bright and shiny with sharp lands and grooves. The action operates properly and locks up tight. The two piece grips are very fine with strong visible cartouche and two small chips at base of left grip. A very fine example of one of the Civil War's finest revolvers
