This is a true Kentucky rifle made in the first half of the 19th century in Louisville, Kentucky. The fully octagonal heavy rifled barrel is mounted with front and rear sights on top flat and stamped "G BAURMANN / LOUISVILLE KY". The flat stamp engraved lockplate is stamped in the center by the locksmith "JOSEPH GRIFFITH / LOUISVILLE KY". The rifle features double set triggers and brass furniture. Right side of butt has a two piece engraved brass patchbox with rocker panel borders and eight-pointed star on lid. The inside of the lid is stamped with a name. Plain crescent buttplate, trigger guard, and small lock screw escutcheon. Full length partially figured maple stock carved with large relief cheek piece on left side with a small silver eight-pointed star inlaid above it. Both sides of wrist have incised large diamond checkering. CONDITION: Barrel retains a brown patina with some areas of light corrosion and some slightly heavier corrosion around breech.
