(Circa 1920) 27" Dovetailed barrels with narrow, swamped game rib are engraved with Joseph Lang's New Bond Street London address and original importer, "Abercrombie & Fitch Co New York. U.S.A." on tops. Barrel flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 2-1/2" chambers. Bottom of left barrel is engraved "For 2 3/4 Shell". Case hardened sidelock action features locks which are hand detachable using a key with hole accessed under hinged flap on each lock. Action also features automatic safety, gold line tumbler end cocking indicators, and single non-selective trigger. Action is engraved with 60% coverage sprays of scroll. On lockplates this scroll surrounds nicely detailed flush gold inlaid scenes of bird dogs; left lock portrays a setter on point. A pointing setter with setter honoring point is on right lock. The face of a spaniel is superimposed over scroll on bottom of action. "Joseph Lang & Son" is on each lockplate. Blued top lever and trigger guard are also scroll engraved. Serial number is on trigger guard tang. Nicely streaked and lightly figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14" over solid Pachmayr red pad. Borderless point pattern checkering is at grip, and fluted drop points are behind locks. Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release. Gun is housed in old tan canvas covered case with stitched leather corners. Case is lined in burgundy felt and has gold embossed Lang label in lid, and contains a horn handled key for locks, ebony handled turnscrew modified for opening latches, a pair of Orvis marked snap caps, square oil bottle, two mops, and a brush. CONDITION: Excellent, as completely refurbished, retaining over 95% custom finishes on wood and metal, with scratches and handling marks. New stocks are well done, as is the nicely detailed new inlay and engraving. Bores are very fine to excellent. Action is tight. Barrels are on face. Left ejector is "live". Trigger appears to work well. Case is fine. Straps and handle are good. Interior is fine. MGM 104
