(2000) The long-lived firm of Lebeau-Courally is known for making some of the finest guns ever produced. This tradition continues today, and their quality is obvious in this very finely crafted gun with its 28" chopper lump barrels fitted with slightly raised matted game rib. Tops of barrels are engraved "AUG. LEBEAU- COURALLY" "ARMES DE GRAND LUXE A LIEGE". Barrel flats are stamped with year 2000 Belgian proofs for 2 - 3/4" chambers. Bottoms of barrels are stamped with steel type logos and "DE. WAHLREYNE" along with "MADE IN BELGIUM" and importer "Wtt. Stirling VA". Coin finished round bodied sidelock action features automatic safety, hidden third fastener, bushed strikers, gold plated internals, and double triggers (front articulated). Lockplates are also rounded and action is very nicely filed. Action and lockplates are engraved with exceptionally well cut large open shaded scroll with floral highlights surrounded by accents of small scroll, all within acanthus and beaded borders. The quality of this engraving is very fine. Engravers signature, "Tanssen" (?) is on trigger plate. Serial number is on trigger guard tang. Superbly marbled and lightly figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 - 1/2" over checkered wood butt with continuous ogee borders. This checkering style continues to grip and on to forend, and is very well executed. A vacant gold oval is on toe line. Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release. Fancy central uncheckered area has nicely inlet engraved gold monogram and crown with intertwined "LLC". This fine gun is housed in an oak and leather case with brass corners. Interior is lined in burgundy cloth with black leather Lebeau Courally label in lid. Tops of dividers in bottom section are outlined in oak, and case contains cleaning equipment along with Lebeau Courally oil bottle and snap caps. CONDITION: Excellent, essentially, as new. Appears unfired since proof, with only the faintest of handling and assembly marks on all wood and metal surfaces. Case is very good with about a 12” scratch on top of the lid. Accessories near excellent. This gun comes with estimate dated Nov 20, 1998 with a cost of 1,122,000 Belgian francs (about $30,000.00 at the time). The "Prince" sidelock ejector in 20 gauge presently retails at 60.000 euros. MGM134.
