This completely American assembled musket features a tapered round barrel without any markings and with a bayonet lug mounted on top near the muzzle. The barrel appears to be American. The lock is an early German lock and is unmarked. The frizzen was sleeved during the period of use. The brass furniture is crude and the buttplate, lockscrew escutcheons, and ramrod ferrules are of sheet brass. The nose cap is a thin sheet of iron. The American trigger guard features a long pointed rear tang and the bow is engraved with a flower. The trigger is curled. The crude cherry stock has a butt stock in the English style, with a very flat comb and has no ramrod entry ferrule. CONDITION: Barrel and lock retain a dark, heavy brown patina. The lock is in its original flintlock configuration. The brass retains a mellow mustard patina. The iron ramrod is heavily corroded and probably a replacement during its period of use. The stock shows some age cracks and scattered marks from use. One small area is replaced on the left side surrounding the foremost ramrod ferrule. This is a very attractive and honest American Revolutionary War Fusil.
