(2000) This gun was commissioned by a noted collector of the time, and is the very first newly produced Holloway & Naughton gun built by the collaboration of Andrew Harvison and John Wiseman, gun maker from Cannock, England, who owned the old Holloway & Naughton name. It has 28" demi-bloc barrels, with solid, matted rib engraved "Holloway & Naughton England". Barrel flats are stamped with Birmingham nitro proofs. Serial number is on bottom barrel. "Premier English Shotgun Ltd" (parent company owned by Harvison and Wiseman) is on left side on forend fillet, and importer "WTT. Sterling, VA" is on right. Case hardened low profile over/under sidelock action features non-automatic safety, gold line tumbler end cocking indicators, and single selective trigger. Action is engraved with near full coverage open shaded acanthus with some scroll surrounding game scene of flushing woodcock on bottom of action under makers name. Lockplates are engraved with bird scenes reminiscent of the work of Harry Kell, with his big eyed birds, and also of the work of noted Birmingham engraver Harry Morris. These scenes are of a covey of quail with four members at rest and two taking wing on left lockplate, and a nye of pheasant, three hens and two cocks, in large clearing with fence in background, on right lock. Portrait of a woodcock is on single beaded trigger guard bow, and serial number is in gold on tang. Engravers signature, "B. J. Wiseman" (brother of John) noted engraver who apprenticed under Harry Morris, is on trigger plate. Exhibition quality beautifully marbled and figured European walnut steel capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14 - 1/2" over checkered wood butt with engraved steel toe plate. This plate and grip cap are engraved with acanthus within gold borders, also the work of Brian Wiseman. Point pattern checkering is at grip, and a vacant gold oval is on toe line. Matching field forend has modified Anson type release, and iron features Boss styled false ejector housings. Gun is housed in tan leather VC case with stitched leather corners. Interior is lined in burgundy cloth, and has H & N paper label in lid which also states "MADE IN ENGLAND" "BY" "PREMIER ENGLISH SHOTGUNS LTD". Case contains high quality H & N cleaning rod, snap caps, oil bottle, and three ebony handles turnscrews. Brush, mop and jag are in tan leather pouch. CONDITION: Excellent, appears to be nearly unfired, with only a small scattering of minor handling and assembly marks in all fine factory finishes, except for a deep 1" scratch across checkering of forearm in front of central diamond. Mechanically excellent. Case is excellent, near new, as are interior and accessories. MGM163.
