(1951) Ordered in 1948 and completed in 1951 per factory ledger page, for Takis Linardarkis, as a pigeon gun, this gun has 30" demi-bloc barrels with matted ventilated rib. Right side of top barrel is engraved "Boss & Co" and left side with "41 Albemarle Street. Piccadilly. London. W. 1". Barrel has extension for rising bolt third fastener. Bottom of bottom barrel and right side of top barrel are stamped with London nitro proofs for 2-3/4" chambers. Serial number is on bottom barrel. Case hardened sidelock low profile Over/Under action features non-automatic safety, third fastener, bushed strikers, line engraved tumbler end cocking indicators, and Boss single non-selective trigger which fires bottom barrel first (according to ledger page). Action is engraved with very well cut classic Boss rose and scroll with 16 rose bouquets. Both sides of action are engraved "Patent No 3307. 1909". Each lockplate is engraved "Boss & Co". Blued top lever and small bow single beaded trigger guard are engraved with matching scroll. Serial number is on trigger guard tang. Dark, well streaked and nicely fiddle figured European walnut round knob, half pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/2" over dark brown leather covered thin pad (14" to end of wood, factory specs are for 15" over rubber recoil pad). Stock features drop points and point pattern checkering on diamond hand. A vacant gold oval is on toe line. Matching Boss ejector forend has semi beavertail swell to forepart, along with Anson type release. Bottom of iron is engraved "Boss's patent" "No 3308. 1909". Gun is housed in tan leather VC case with stitched leather corners. Interior is lined in burgundy cloth, and has Boss Cork Street paper label in lid. Case contains a beech and brass two piece cleaning rod, square oil bottle, pair of turnscrews with ebonized handles, pull through cleaning kit, and a pair of Boss marked snap caps. CONDITION: Fine to very fine, as partially refinished. Barrels retain over 90% older re-blue with slight silvering on sharp edges. Action retains approximately 25% original case hardening color, vivid where protected around fences. Left lock retains most of its color under some old yellowed lacquer. Right lock has traces of color, but is mostly silver gray. Forend iron, top lever and trigger guard re-blued, retaining most of that blue, engraving somewhat softened. Stocks retain nearly all of an old oil refinish over some marks. Checkering does not appear to have been re-cut, maybe cleaned at grip. Long plastic front sight has been taken down and is almost flush with rib. Bores are very fine to excellent. Action is tight. Top barrel is slightly off face, with a glimmer of light through. Ejectors are very slightly out of time. Three pull Boss trigger appears to work well. Relatively new case is excellent, with some minor scuffing on exterior. Interior cloth is excellent. A great Boss pigeon gun, which was sold sometime in the past by Christies, with a statement that "this gun was owned by a Mr. E. Vafiadis" and "it was with this gun that Mr. Vafiadis won the world live pigeon championship at Rome in 1956." MGM164.
