This top of the line Daly gun has 29 - 7/8" dovetailed steel barrels gold inlaid "Charles Daly Regent Diamond Quality" within background of exceptionally well cut shaded acanthus scroll with floral highlights on concave game rib. Matching scroll is on rear breech ends of barrels as termination for wonderful carved fronds of fern and rose blossoms. Barrel flats are stamped with German black powder proofs and serial number. Bottoms of barrels are stamped with H. A. Lindner crossed pistol logos. Case hardened scallop backed top lever action features automatic safety, pin type cocking indicators, square crossbolt hidden third fastener, side clips, intercepting safety sears, and double triggers. Action is engraved with more sublime scroll and floral highlights matching that on barrel, covering essentially every surface except for vignettes of game birds on sides; pair of partridge in relief gold in a rural setting on left, and a pair of snipe in old woodlands on right. Trigger plate is a gold inlaid relief duck flying toward the viewer surmounted by a gold inlaid regents crown. A pair of flushing partridge are in gold on trigger guard bow. Fences are beautifully carved in high relief sea shell motif. "Charles Daly" is on small arched riband on each side of action. Very nicely marbled and lightly figured European walnut round knob pistol grip buttstock measures 13 - 7/8" over dark brown leather covered pad. Checkering on side panels is outlined by chip carving. Fancy checkering at grip has fleur di lis behind side panels, and very fancy borders at rear. A horn finial is on tip of pistol grip and a vacant gold oval is on toe line. Matching splinter ejector forend with inlet horn tip has Deeley release. CONDITION: Very fine, mostly all original. Barrels retain approximately 80% original blue, thinning on sides, and there are some light marks and thinning toward muzzles. Action retains a considerable amount of original case hardening color, percentage difficult to access, due to extensive engraving which is silvered on high points adding to depth of detail. Stocks retain over 80% of their original finish with loss and sanding marks along with lightening of color associated with installation of newer pad. Bores are excellent. Action is tight with forend installed. Barrels are on face. Ejectors are in time. A Griffin & Howe letter notes that this gun was consigned to V L & D on December 6, 1919, and returned to the consignor (Hyner, Erie PA) in 1922. MGM208.
