(1985) Gun 12 of 15 made in this series (only 6 in 20 gauge) commemorating Holland & Holland's 150 years of operation, and inlaid in silver on swamped game rib of 28" chopper lump barrels. Tops of barrels are engraved "Holland & Holland" and "33, Bruton Street, London." Barrel flats are stamped with 1983 London nitro proofs for 2 - 3/4" chambers. Case hardened bar in wood top lever action is fitted with front spring locks with serpentine rebounding hammers which have high spurs. Action is engraved with well cut classic English rose and scroll. "Holland & Holland" is on each lockplate. Trigger plate has large round spurred finial. Single beaded trigger guard with rose and scroll on bow, has serial number in gold on tang. Smoky marbled and stump figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 - 5/8" over checkered wood butt. Stock features drop points, classic point pattern checkering on diamond hand, and a vacant silver oval on toe line. Matching splinter forend has Anson release. Gun is housed in traditionally styled mahogany case with inlet brass corners and central medallion which has purple velvet slip cover. Case has two push button spring locks on sides. Interior is lined in blue leather with leather in lid embossed in gold with Holland & Holland label and secondary information area "Holland & Holland Ltd" "Sesquicentennial" "1835 - 1985" "No 12 of a Set of 15" "COMMEMORATIVE GUNS". Bottom compartment is semi french fitted for action, barrels, and forend, and full french fitted for accessories including striker key, two turnscrews, and cleaning rod handle, all in German silver and ebony, along with a broken case extractor, round oil bottle, and ebony striker bottle with spare strikers. Long section of cleaning rod rests under barrels and brush mop and jag are in a covered compartment. CONDITION: Excellent, essentially as new, appears unfired since proof, with only a few minor handling and assembly marks in all factory surfaces. Case is excellent with a few chips in lacquer on sides, and a rub or two on top, one fairly deep. Interior is excellent, with some minor rubs. Accessories are excellent. MGM171.
