According to Griffin & Howe, this rifle was built in 1936 utilizing a Springfield 1903 action and following the design of the standard custom Griffin & Howe stock and barrel profile. Features deluxe dark hand checkered walnut stock, horn forend, rollover cheek piece, straight comb, engraved pistol grip cap, and Neidner style trapdoor buttplate that is engraved at toe and heel. Other features include a Lyman 48 receiver sight, round barrel, sling swivels, and hooded ramp front sight. This gun was masterfully engraved in what appears to be Kornbrath style and features full scroll engraving on trigger guard and floorplate, grip cap, breech of frame, breech of barrel, forward sling swivel, front sight, front of barrel and even the Lyman base and scope base. Top of the barrel is stamped "NO. 1471 GRIFFIN & HOWE INC NEW YORK". The lifter and top of right side frame bolt rail are jeweled. Trigger is hand checkered. Bolt is jeweled and handle is engraved. Griffin & Howe quick release scope mounts and comes with a very early Leupold 2-1/4x scope with serial number 2470. Housed in a more recent oak and leather carry case that includes three turn screws, pair of hook swivels, cleaning rod, sling and 12 rounds of Griffin & Howe original ammo in a two piece box stamped "7mm LOADED WITH 139 GR. FULL PATCH BULLET; REDUCED LOAD", and Griffin & Howe trade label. CONDITION: Rifle remains in near new condition inside and out. About the only wear is a hint at muzzle and a small case rub at breech of frame. Wood is near mint to mint with sharp checkering. Retains 99.9% of the original Griffin & Howe bluing. This is one of the most handsome pre-war Griffin & Howe engraved rifles ever made. Simply stunning and unimproveable.
