(1951) 26" shoe lump barrels are marked "J. P. SAUER & SOHN SUHL GERMANY" on milled out portion of raised matted game rib. Tops of barrels are marked with Krupp steel information. Barrel flats are stamped with 1951 East German nitro proofs for 12 gauge and 2 - 3/4" chambers. Case hardened sidelock action features automatic safety, cross bolt third fastener, side clips, reinforcing bolsters, raised rib tumbler end cocking indicators, and double triggers. Action and lockplates are engraved with whorls of large scroll with small flanking scrolls within stamped scroll and geometric borders. Trigger plate is engraved "J. P. Sauer & Sohn" "SUHL". Blued trigger guard with scroll on bow has serial number on tang. Lightly marbled and figured European walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14 - 1/4" over composition buttplate with Sauer SS logo. Well cut point pattern checkering is at grip, and a vacant silver oval is on toe line. Matching splinter ejector forend with schnabeled tip has Deeley release. CONDITION: Excellent. Barrels retain over 90% original blue with some light marks and rubs. Action retains 50 - 60% original case hardening color, Lockplates retain nearly all of their color. Stocks retain nearly all of their original hand rubbed oil finish, checkering lightly worn. Finish on forend has a bit more hand wear at rear. Bores are excellent. Ejectors are in time. Barrels are on face. Action is tight. These well built sidelock guns are not often found. MGM199.
