(ca 1940) 26" barrels are engraved "CUSTOM BUILT BY WINCHESTER" on rear portion of raised ventilated rib. Engine turned barrel flats are stamped with serial number, gauge information, and choke information (WS 1 and WS2) are on bottoms of barrels. Flat side blued Model 21 action is fitted with blued single selective trigger, and has blocked safety. Action is engraved in 21-4 style with sprays of scroll surrounding game scenes; drake and hen mallard are on left side, and a pair of quail flying on right. A pointer and setter are on trigger plate. Nicely crotch figured American walnut steel capped pistol grip custom buttstock measures 14 - 1/4" over partially leather covered pad. Fancy pattern checkering with flourishes into butt is at grip. Grip cap has some scroll engraving and a gold oval on toe line is engraved "HU". Original braced beavertail ejector forend with inset ebony tip and fancy checkering pattern has typical J-spring and knurled roll release. CONDITION: Fine, as custom finished. Barrels retain nearly all of an old re-black with some subsequent marks and silvering. Action has an older re-blue, engraving somewhat softened. Custom buttstock retains nearly all of its original finish with numerous scratches. Original forend has refinish, most likely contemporary with buttstock. Bores are fine, lightly frosted. Action is tight. Mechanically appears to be fine, but is gummy and needs cleaning. A factory letter might reveal original factory engraving. MGM140.
