This example is one of the best known to exist. Features a slightly curved single edge blade with wide, shallow fuller and narrow deep full on each side. Both sides feature 16-1/2" panels of etched decoration. The right side with a stand of arms and a USN flag, a vacant plaque with a star border, a fouled anchor with patriotic shield and etched near the ricasso "Ames Mfg. Co./ Chicopee/ Mass". The opposite side features a rope intertwined with oak leaves and acorns, a "U.S.N." banner, a fouled anchor and an eagle perched on a cannon. Standard gilt brass Model 1852 hilt with pierced guard chased with USN banner and oak leaves and acorns in high relief. The quillon is a chased dolphin's head. Grips is wrapped with white sharkskin and twisted gilt brass wire. Complete with its original black leather scabbard with gilt brass mounts featuring relief knot ring mounts and serpent at drag. CONDITION: Excellent. Blade retains almost all of its original polish with a few scattered light grey spots. The hilt retains approximately 95-98% gilt finish. Scabbard is excellent with a few light storage marks and a few darkened areas. It would be hard to find a finer example. From the Jim Linton Collection
