This custom 4 gauge set was made by custom finishing a 12 gauge gun, with the addition of three gauge barrel sets (20, 28, and .410) by Simmons Gun Specialists. 12 gauge barrels have Remington marks and are fitted with slightly raised, matted, ventilated rib. Other barrel sets are fitted with Simmons ribs, and are marked with gauge and chamber information. Breech sections of mono-bloc have been drilled/milled, and otherwise lightened to match weight and balance of 12 gauge barrels. Action with blocked safety features single selective trigger. Action is engraved with full coverage well cut large open shaded acanthus scroll surrounding vignettes of gold inlaid dogs and birds in nicely detailed backgrounds; retriever and duck beside open marsh on left, and a pointer and flushing pheasant in open woodlands on right, and a quail flying across an opening in woodlands on bottom of action. A letter dated June 19, 1978 from W. M. Jaqua states that this engraving is by the late Arnold Griebel. Further "other than the fact that I know the origin of the gun, I personally have been an admirer of Mr. Griebel's engraving for many years." (No signature found) Nicely stump figured American walnut Remington capped pistol grip buttstock measures 13 - 5/8" over black White line pad. Side panels and grip are checkered. Matching full ejector forend has Deeley type release. CONDITION: Excellent, as partially refinished. Barrels and action retain nearly all of an old re-blue, which appears to be done a considerable amount of time after engraving, as engraving is considerably softened, and has some light marks and scratches under blue. Remington stocks (possibly factory replacement) retain nearly all of their original varnish. Bores are excellent. Mechanically fine. Gun is housed in an older black vinyl case with black leather trim lined in green fur. Bottom compartment is semi french fitted for action and all four barrel sets. Case is fine. MGM159. CORRECTION: Shotgun shows a crack at the lower tang screw traveling up the left side to the top tang near the safety position.
