The Remington New Model Army was manufactured from 1863 to 1875. The State of New Jersey purchased 1,000 of this model to be issued to state militia for use in the Civil War. They are immediately identified by the "N.J." found stamped on the left barrel flat. You will find the inspector stamp "W" on right side of frame and barrel. "B" inspector stamp on left side of brass trigger guard. There are no inspector cartouche stamps on the two piece walnut grips. Standard features include octagon barrel. Barrel stamped "PATENTED SEPT. 14. 1858 / E. REMINGTON & SONS ILION NEWYORK U.S.A. NEW-MODEL". It is a six shot, single action, non-fluted cylinder, percussion with blued finish, brass trigger guard and two piece walnut grips. CONDITION: Barrel retains approximately 75% of the original factory bright blue, blending with soft grey-brown patina. One small mar on left side, approximately 1/4". Barrel address is sharp. Loading lever retains approximately 85% original blue. Frame retains approximately 80% original blue, blending homogeneously to a soft patina. Cylinder is an even mix of blue and soft brown patina, giving a more blue appearance. Straps are grey patina. Mellow brass. 75% dark case colors on hammer. Action locks up like a vault. Sharp, clean, near mint rifling; still shiny with a hint of frosting. This is definitely one of the better condition New Jersey marked revolvers.
