Manufactured by Edward Lindner of Manchester, New Hampshire at the Amoskeag Manufacturing Co., in two types totaling 6,500 manufactured; 892 of which were the First Type. All metal is finished in the white. Features one piece walnut stock. The Type II was ordered by the Ordnance Department and built at Amoskeag in April 1863; 6,000 were ordered. The Army refused delivery of the Type II and it is believed the examples were sold in 1870 to one of the European countries engaged in the Franco-Prussian Wars. Left side of barrel is stamped with the Liege proof mark which would indicate shipment to Belgium. It is an interesting gun in that it is a breechloading percussion. Top of frame is stamped "EDWARD LINDNERS PATENT MARCH 29 1859". Action is dated 1864 with US eagle and is stamped "AMOSKEAG MFG CO MANCHESTER NH". Buttplate is stamped "US". Saddle ring at rear trigger guard and sports a two leaf folding rear sight. There are no visible wood inspector marks. CONDITION: Metal is extremely clean with just some minor age freckling. Stock is excellent to near mint with a few minor handling marks. Extremely clean, well defined bore. You would be hard pressed to find a better example.
