Philip Hess worked in the Lehighton Area of Pennsylvania circa 1810. The full octagon barrel with rifle sights is double stamped "P. Hess" on barrel flat. Flintlock is marked "Demuth Lancaster" and is controlled by double set triggers. Curly maple full stock with brass furniture including a four piece engraved patchbox with floral finial and three piercings and saddleplate. Two coin silver inlays (silver thumbpiece and oval cheekpiece). Nice pierced toeplate with engraving. Gun also has pick holder rings with a porcupine quill in the rings. CONDITION: Wood has nice aged finish with no visible repairs and light usage marks. Metal has good patina with some corrosion by the touch hole. Lock most likely is a reconversion. Mechanically sound.
