Full length rifled octagonal barrel with front and rear sights engraved with single line borders on each side of both sights. Flat, unengraved lock with frizzen refaced during the period of use. The brass furniture includes a four piece, pin-fastened patchbox of sheet brass with engraved borders and two piercings on finial. Full sideplate of sheet brass engraved with floral designs at rear and inscribed "JACOB SCHLEPPY"; this was possibly the owner or the gunsmith. Rifle features double set triggers, a faceted trigger guard with lug in front of bow, and small sheet brass extension in front of front tang. Stock of figured maple with classic Allemeangel School, Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania form; with Roman nose buttstock and high relief carved and molded cheek piece on left side. Complete with period wooden ramrod. CONDITION: This rifle is basically in as found condition. Barrel retains a dark, heavy brown patina. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration. All brass components retain a dark brown patina. Lock is functional but triggers do not activate the cock. Stock retains a dark patina with some scattered repairs and about 14" of forend professionally restored, otherwise a few scattered marks from use. A very nice Lehigh Kentucky.
