Manufactured 1898 with a 26" full octagon barrel and full length magazine. Fitted with a sporting blade front sight and three leaf express rear sight. Standard two line Winchester barrel address on left barrel flat with caliber "38-55" marked over chamber. Fitted with an incredible piece of 3X highly figured crotch cut American walnut two piece stocks with "H" checkering and capped checkered pistol grip with crescent buttplate. The lower tang is assembly number 516 with "XXXX" designation for the special order deluxe stocks. The stock mortise is marked with the same 516. A second assembly number, 14377, is on the tang as well and this number is found on butt under the unnumbered buttplate. CONDITION: Very fine as restored with over 95% restored blue finish on the barrel and magazine. The receiver retains over 80% bright restored blue with a spot of finish loss on the receiver ring over the chamber as well as thinning on the balance point and light finish loss from carry use around loading gate. The highly figures stocks are very fine and solid with no cracks or material loss. The contemporary varnish remains almost entirely intact on the forearms with slight wear to rear of checkering. The buttstock has several flecks of varnish loss around wrist but otherwise is excellent. The buttplate has basically silvered but is very good. Bore is mirror bright with sharp rifling. The action is crisp and operates properly.
