Approximately 20,000 manufactured. There is no need to go into the history and battles that the Sharps carbine participated in as it would virtually every action from the time of manufacture from war's end. It was the most in demand and most reliable of all Civil War carbines. Features full round barrel stamped "Sharps Rifle / Manufg Co / Hartford Conn" and inspector mark EAW for Elijah A. Williams. Breech stamped "New Model 1863". Rear sight has R.S. Lawrence 1859 stamp. Right side of frame has the R.S. Lawrence 1859 stamp as well as "C. Sharps' Pat / October 15th, 1853". Left side of frame stamped "C. Sharps Pat / September 12th, 1848". Single barrel band, saddle ring and stud. Percussion action. Walnut stocks with carbine steel buttplate. There are two inspector stamps on left side of stock in rectangles. First is FAR for Francis A. Roe, second is SW for Sam Williams. CONDITION: This carbine saw use but was well cared for. Barrel is a homogeneous of blue-brown patina. Legends are sharp. Case colors have nippled out to a soft grey-brown with some freckling, as has lever, lever tang, and buttplate. Wood is excellent with sharp cartouches. There is a bit of black powder pitting on breech block which has had some wiped on finish added. Bore is mirror bright with sharp lands and grooves. A nice midwar percussion all-original Sharps carbine.
